New Zealand vs India Champions Trophy

Both teams will have a dilemma, as they need to keep their squad fresh for the semis and, at the same time, not lose momentum. India will be back at this venue in two days’ time on Tuesday for the semis, which could influence their team selection. It’s an advantage for Kiwis if you ask me, and I am backing them on the win here.
- New Zealand won 7 of their last 8 matches (ODIs).
- New Zealand won 8 of their last 11 matches in neutral venues (ODIs).
- India lost 9 of their last 14 matches against New Zealand in neutral venues (ODIs).
- New Zealand won 5 of their last 6 matches in ICC venues against India in neutral venues (ODIs).
Head to Head
New Zealand has played India in 118 ODIs so far, with 50 wins for the Kiwis and 60 wins for the Men in Blue. Seven matches ended without a result, while one match ended in a tie.
The Indians are on a roll lately, winning their last five matches against India. That included a 70-run win in the 2023 ODI World Cup when these sides met at the Wankhede.
Virat Kohli (117) and Shreyas Iyer (105) lifted India to 397 for 4, batting first. The chase was steeper, although Daryl Mitchell (134) and Kane Williamson (69) tried to counter the heroics of Mohammed Shami (7 for 57).
New Zealand Form
New Zealand are at the top of Group A with four points and a positive run rate of 0.863. They have already qualified for the semi-finals and will play in Lahore on 5th March, although who they play is yet to be confirmed.
The Kiwis started the tournament with a 60-run win over Pakistan in Karachi, followed by a confident five-wicket win over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.
Tom Latham remains their most consistent player of the tournament with a 100 and 50 in the two knocks. Rachin Ravindra scored a century in his only knock. Among the bowlers, Michael Bracewell and William O’Rourke have five wickets each.
New Zealand Team News
New Zealand could go with the same XI unless they want to bring Daryl Mitchell back in place of Will Young.
India Form
India also have four points in this competition and have qualified for the semi-finals. They have a run rate of +0.647 and definitely need to win this match to qualify as group winners.
The Men in Blue defeated Bangladesh and Pakistan by six wickets each to book their place for the first semi-final to be played at the same venue in Dubai.
Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli scored one century each and will once again be central to their plans. Shreyas Iyer’s importance in the middle order could be critical, especially against the spinners. Shami has a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh.
India Team News
Rohit Sharma skipped a few sessions and could be rested. If so, Rishabh Pant could get a chance in the playing XI. They could make things interesting by getting an off-spinner, Washington Sundar, or a left-armer, Arshdeep Singh, in place of Harshit Rana.
