The chase was a steep one, and the Royals lost wickets quickly to be 50 for 3, from where it was always a tough ask. Sanju Samson (66) and Dhruv Jurel (70 off 35) did their bit to take the game deep, but they were only reducing the losing margin.

Fazalhaq Farooqi and Jofra Archer conceded 125 runs in seven overs between them. Wanindu Hasaranga and Kwena Maphaka are in the squad and could fancy a game.

Kolkata Knight Riders Form

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders started the season with a home loss, as they were beaten by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of the campaign by seven wickets.

The Knight Riders mustered 174 for 8 riding on the knocks of Ajinkya Rahane (56 off 31 balls) and Sunil Narine (44 off 26). The late push from the likes of Rinku Singh and Andre Russell didn’t come, though, as they failed to take off in the final overs.

Bengaluru eased through the chase in just 16.2 overs as the Kolkata bowlers struggled for effectiveness. Sunil Narine (1 for 27) was their best bowler of the night.

Vaibhav Arora and Spencer Johnson had poor starts to the campaign and that could open the door for Anrich Nortje and Chetan Sakariya. Rinku’s numbers are falling steeply, although his place isn’t yet under threat.
