Rajasthan Royals will be desperate for a win to sign off the Guwahati leg of the IPL 2025 as they face Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. This is match #11 of the tournament, and the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati will host this game starting at 7:30 pm IST.

The Royals remain one of the sides yet to win this season, and this could perhaps be their best chance. Chennai have played as late as Friday at home and could be caught up with the schedule being tight. Yet, I am wary of backing the Royals in the win section. Instead, I am backing Rajasthan to score the most match 6s.

Historical records suggest that the Royals and the Super Kings have played some close matches. In the 30 matches between them, there have been 14 wins for Rajasthan and 16 for Chennai.

Last season these sides played in Chennai, where the Super Kings won by five wickets. The Royals batted first to score 141 for 5, led by Riyan Parag’s 47* off 35 balls. The Super Kings chased it down in the 19th over with Ruturaj Gaikwad remaining unbeaten on 42 off 41 balls.

Rajasthan Royals Form

The Royals started the season with two defeats in two matches. They lost to the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 44 runs away in Hyderabad before losing by eight wickets to the Kolkata Knight Riders at this venue last Wednesday.

There hasn’t been enough spunk from their batters, as only Dhruv Jurel (103 runs) aggregates reasonably well. Captain Sanju Samson will continue to play as a specialist batter, which is perhaps limiting their choice of impact players.

The bowlers have been guilty of leaking runs in tonnes, as all the regular bowlers have conceded more than ten runs per over this season. The best returns are for Tushar Deshpande (three), while Maheesh Theekshana has two wickets to his name.

Akash Madhwal could be played by the Royals to give their bowling unit a lift-up, while Jofra Archer’s poor returns also remain under scrutiny.

Chennai Super Kings Form

Chennai Super Kings have two points from two matches and are in the mid-table logjam. They won by four wickets against the Mumbai Indians but were humbled by 50 runs by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday. Both matches were played in Chennai.

Batsmen remain under focus for the Chennai side too, with Rachin Ravindra (106 runs) the only one consistently among runs. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is yet to fire, and so are the middle-order hitters Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja.

There’s relief with the bowling unit performances, though, as Noor Ahmed (seven wickets) has been a revelation. Khaleel Ahmed (four wickets, ER 7.12) has also been impressive with the new ball.

Chennai Super Kings Team News

Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda will be under pressure to perform, and if Chennai are likely to make any changes, it could be a chance for Vijay Shankar or Andre Siddarth in the middle order.

It’s a quick turnaround time for Chennai, which may benefit the Royals, but are they well-equipped to take advantage? Rajasthan are yet to figure out their best XI but have been able to summon the big hits at will. That’s something I am willing to back and put my money on – the Rajasthan Royals scoring the most match 6s.
