Delhi, on the other hand, have started well, although their wins have come in Visakhapatnam. This could be a tough one to predict, but I am going by history and Chennai’s record here to back the Super Kings.

The overall record between these sides is tilted in favour of Chennai, with the Super Kings leading the Capitals 19-11 in 30 matches.

Last year saw these sides meet in Visakhapatnam when Delhi won by 20 runs. It was a game where Chennai perhaps left it too late, as MS Dhoni’s smashing 37* off 16 balls came at number eight.

Chennai have two points from three matches and are in the bottom four spots of the table. Their season started with a four-wicket win here over the Mumbai Indians, but soon they lost by 50 runs to Bengaluru and by six runs to the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.

The challenge for the Super Kings is how their batters have gone incognito so far. Only two batsmen aggregate more than 100 runs, and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been shouldering the burden (two 50+ scores).

The bowling unit has held its head high with Noor Ahmad (nine wickets, ER 6.83) and Khaleel Ahmed (six wickets, ER 7.91) leading the show. Questions remain over the non-performance of their overseas players.

Interestingly, Delhi batters didn’t need to put in a great shift, as only Faf du Plessis (79 runs) scored an individual fifty. The bowlers led their charge so far with Mitchell Starc (eight wickets, SR 5.7) and Kuldeep Yadav (five wickets, ER 5.25) putting together a great combo of effectiveness and squeeze.

Axar Patel will be looking at ways of improvement, and one of those could come from Mohit Sharma (ER 9.57) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (SR 114.70).
